About the author

Gillian Thomas, the granddaughter of the first generation of readers documented here, was born, like them, near Carn Brea in Cornwall–the village shown here in one of her father’s paintings. She studied and taught English literature for several decades and has set up this site to reflect on the complex experience of three generations of readers.
